Hitara

Hitara is the name of the region that the cities of Vale and Heimdohl reside in. Hitara consists of the Great Inland Sea, around which Vale and Heimdohl lie. On the north end of the Sea is Vale, the center of religion. Vale also sits at the edge of the Dusk Mountains, a mountain range that travel to the north from Vale until they reach the Mountains of Dreams at the far northern edge of the region (distance TBD). To the east of Vale lies the Twilight Forest, a great expanse of forest and swamps that extend to the northeast, until they reach another mountain range, the Dawn Mountains. Immediately to the east and west of the Sea are the Western and Eastern Steppes. These Steppes were created by large earthquakes that happened between 100 and 150 years before Koryuu’s Destruction (KD). Beyond the Western Steppes is a new mountain range, Byakko’s Peaks, named after the beast that created them. In the middle of the Sea is Genbu’s Atoll, a large band of small islands, some moving, created during Genbu’s storm. On the southeast edge of the Sea lies Heimdohl, the center of trade. To the south of the Sea lies the Fire Mountains, a large strip of mountains and volcanoes that create a line along the southern edge of the region. Last, on the southwest edge of the Sea, lies the ruins of Mjolnir, situated at the edge of Suzaku’s Breath, the volcano that destroyed the city.

Due to the rough terrain that exists around much of the area, trying to enter or exit the region is difficult. Until the death of Koryuu, the only travelers to enter the region were a family of Drows who came from a city north of the Mountains of Dreams. Beyond that, anyone who left to explore the outside world never came back. Following the death of Koryuu, many more travelers of various species have begun to come and go from Vale and Heimdohl. This has led many scholars to believe that Koryuu’s power prevented traveling into the region.
